Ebook About
In 2001, Sharon Pincott traded her privileged life as a high-flying corporate executive to start a new one with the Presidential Elephants of Zimbabwe. She was unpaid, untrained, self-funded and arrived with the starry-eyed idealism of most foreigners during early encounters with Africa. For thirteen years - the worst in Zimbabwe's volatile history - this intrepid Australian woman lived in the Hwange bush fighting for the lives of these elephants, forming an extraordinary and life-changing bond with them. Now remote from Robert Mugabe's rule, Sharon writes without restraint sequentially through the years, taking us on a truly unforgettable ride of hope and heartbreak, profound love and loss, adversity and new beginnings. This is the haunting, all-encompassing story we've been waiting for.Powerfully moving, sometimes disturbing and often very funny, Elephant Dawn is a celebration of love, courage and honour amongst our greatest land mammals. With resilience beyond measure, Sharon earns the supreme right to call them family.[The book includes 32 pages of colour photographs.]

Book Elephant Dawn: The inspirational story of thirteen years living with elephants in the African wilderness Review :

I learned how absolutely terrifying it is to live in a third world country as an expat in the midst of corrupt (there isn't a strong enough word for THIS corruption) political tyranny. Pincott has most extraordinary experiences with the elephant families she observes, records and has relationships. Her tenacity in the face of deadly opposition, not from several ton elephants, who adore her, but rather from poachers, two-faced Government officials and bizarre land claimers who take over farms which were prosperous and fed the people if their country, neglecting them with their inability to farm, bringing the entire country to financial, moral and devastating ruin within months. I did grow weary the last quarter if the book where Pincott alternately agonizes over departing, her life at stake, and unable to continue to see her elephant friends for fear of losing her life while railing with benign authorities for more than on end before leaving. I'm sure Pincott was far wearier than this reader, but some editing would have gone a long way to make the book more about the elephants than the politics she had to struggle with to be with the elephants. Photos attached the end of the book were wonderful! I wish they had been interspersed throughout the book.
A story of fifteen years in the life of Sharon Pincott and her Presidential Elephant “friends” in Zimbabwe. It is a beautiful and fascinating account of her love of these majestic animals and the love and trust they obviously have for her. She tells of poachers who think nothing of laying wire snares to kill the elephants for their ivory tusks. However many times the animals often do not die and without her help they suffer terribly and in the end they usually succumb to infections. These snares are not the only type of abuse the animals have to endure they are shot at and poisoned as well. Not only is she very active in trying to save and protect these beautiful animals but she is constantly battling the corrupt government. Very sad to read about. Sharon Pincott deserves a lot of credit. Everyone should read this book.
