This is everything a Midwest cookbook should be. Chicago seems to be the Midwest of the author; Minnesota seems to be the heart of the Midwest to me. But the baking is almost everything I remember. It is the best from the Midwest. The author prefaces recipes with notes about the recipe; this is a style I really like. Recipes are easily understandable and contain tips you cannot get enough of--such as shaking the buttermilk really well.I have an extensive collection of cookbooks, and if you find one good recipe, you consider it a pretty good cookbook. This has so many good recipes that it far exceeds being a good cookbook. Photos are lovely; I do wish there were more food photos--this is always a desire of mine. But I enjoy the nostalgia photos as much as the food recipes.I could easily give this cookbook more than 5 stars. It is long overdue. One should not hesitate to order this cookbook. Got this yesterday and I’ve used almost a whole pack of post it page markers on it. Limpa, Schaum Torte, and Swedish Flop in one book! Not to mention all the other yummy-looking stuff. Looks like a nice book full of good recipes - reminds me of my childhood in Chicagoland. Hope to start baking soon.
